American Rock Climber Brad Gobright Has Died After A Fall In Northern Mexico- Safari News

American Rock Climber Brad Gobright Has Died After A Fall In Northern Mexico.

brad gobrightAmerican rock climber Brad Gobright has died after a fall in Northern Mexico. it is a public secret that rock climbers always have to risk it all in chase of a passion that’s deeply rooted in them than anything you’ve ever imagined in the world and that’s the exhilarating feeling of freedom gained after a challenging climb either in a free solo or abseiling or rappeller mode.

It’s because of this burning passion that can’t easily be satisfied or quenched by a simple hiking challenge that they have always dared to do what to many seems quite simply impossible. In so doing, many of these guys have paid the ultimate price which is losing their lives while attempting to rapell or try a free solo on a cliff that is almost a flawless and smooth as a baby’s skin.

Today I write this article deeply saddened by the death of one of the greatest hikers the world has ever had, Brad Gobright. Brad met his death doing what he knows best and that’s to climb rock edges. He died on Wednesday at Sendero Luminoso in El Potrero Chico, the nation’s civil protection agency said. At the time of his death, Brad Gobright was with his friend and fellow climber Jacobson simul- abseiling or rappelling (as the Americans call it) in El Potrero. Simul-abseiling is a rock climbing technique used when 2 climbers descend a rock cliff using the end strands of a rope that has been anchored and their own body weights acting as counterbalances to each other.

BRAD GRJacobson said we started rapping, I was a bit above him, I was on the left. He (Brad Gobright) on the right. All of a sudden I had a pop, and we started dropping. It was basically a blur, he screamed, I screamed, I fell through vegetation all I could remember is seeing his blue Gramicci shirt bounce off the edge of a cliff before falling almost 985meters below to his death

Jacobson crashed into a bush, which broke his fall and stopped him from tumbling farther. “It pretty much saved his life,” the friend, Ryan Borys, said. Jacobson told him he saw Gobright fall past him and over the ledge.

Rescuers retrieved his body Thursday and Jacobson was treated for the injuries he had sustained to his ankle and other parts of his body.

The State Department confirmed Gobright’s death in Mexico. “We offer our sincerest condolences to his family on their loss. We are closely monitoring local authorities’ investigation and are providing all appropriate consular assistance. Out of respect to the family during this difficult time, we have no further comment,” it said.

Heartfelt condolences from the rock climbing world.

Ever since the news about Brad’s death broke out, heartfelt condolences have been pouring out on social media as well mainstream media channels to the family of Gobright especially form his fellow climbing partners, friends and the climbing fraternity world over.

Axel Hannold, who was the major focus in the Free Solo an award-winning documentary in which Brad also featured paid tribute to brad in an Instagram post in which he said

“He was such a warm, kind soul – one of a handful of partners that I always loved spending a day with,” he posted. “… I’m just sad for Brad and his family. And for all of us who were so positively affected by his life. So crushing. Brad was a real gem of a man. The climbing world lost a true light.”

Alice Hafer, one of Gobright’s climbing partners, described her shock at news of his death.

“He had a magic about him on the rock, unlike anyone I’ve ever met,” she said. “He was so supportive and encouraging, always pushing me harder and believing in me. I can’t believe that not even a few weeks ago he was sitting next to me as we drove home from Arizona. I’ll cherish those moments always.”

A preview of Brads climbing prowess

Born in Orange County California, United States, Brad began climbing as early as 6 years and in 2009, he dropped out of college to fully concentrate on rock climbing. He managed to survive by doing several odd jobs especially during winter and then engaged in all sorts of rock climbing for the remaining part of the year.

brad gobrighIn 2015, Brad and Mason Earle made the first free ascent of the Heart route on El Capitan in Yosemite National park in the United States of America. The following year of 2016, Gobright was back to El Capitan again this time around with another climbing partner Scott Bennet and they managed to climb 3 different routes of the rock namely Zodiac, The Nose and Lurking Fear and they did it in a record 24 hours. Brad wasn’t finished yet with El Capitan because in 2017, he returned to El Capitan with Jim Reynolds and together they managed to climb the rock’s Nose route in a record-breaking time of 2 hours, 19 minutes and 44 seconds.

A few months back in June 2019, together with another rock climbing god Alex Hannold, he made the second free ascent of El Niño on El Capitan in fourteen-and-a-half hours.

Malindi National Park- Kenya Best Marine Protected Area To Visit On Your Kenya Safari Tour Adventure.

Malindi National Park- Kenya Best Marine Protected Area To Visit On Your Kenya Safari Tour Adventure.

Malindi National park- Kenya best marine protected area to visit on your Kenya safari holiday adventure. Kenya is largely known as the powerhouse of epic Africa wildlife safaris given the wide biodiversity of wildlife that exists in this east African country. Given the numerous Kenya wildlife safari destinations that have over a period of a quarter a century attracted over millions of Africa safari enthusiasts who have flogged the country to witness and experience the magic of the pride savanna lands of Kenya.

scuba kenya 2However, today, I would like to bring to light the other side of a Kenya safari experience that many people haven’t fully noticed yet it’s truly beautiful and rewarding as it’s loaded with amazing experiences. This is none other Kenya’s marine life. Kenya is located along the warm eastern African coastal waters of the Indian Ocean which harbour a wide range of stunning marine life.

Given the marine diversity that exists in these Oceanic waters, the Kenya government has designated some of the areas as marine parks for conservation and tourism purposes.

One of these marine parks is  Mombasa Marine National Park, this is the most popular of the marine protected areas due to ease of accessibility and a favourite among Mombasa snorkelers and scuba divers due to its abundant marine life, beautiful blue water and spectacular coral reefs. The high number of north coast accommodations in Nyali and Bamburi draws in thousands of tourists from around the world. As part of The Mombasa Park is one of the later gazetted marine parks in Kenya and is a combination of a national park, which covers almost 4 square miles (10 sq. km), and a national reserve, covering a little less than 80 square miles (200 sq. km).

scuba kenyaMombasa Marine Park is one of many that work together to preserve the fragile coral reef on the Kenyan coast that stretches for 143 miles (230 kilometers) along the shoreline. The reef plays an important role in the ocean ecosystem by providing safety and food to almost one million species of marine life. The various colours, shapes and sizes of the coral are incredible and some of the species that you may see in the Indian ocean are the brain coral, pavonia coral, open-branched stags, horn coral, Acropora coral and Favia coral.

Aquatic sea life thrives in the park and many species are represented, such as sea urchin, crab, starfish, octopus, jellyfish, sea cucumber and many more, The thriving coral attracts a variety of fish, such as multi-coloured angelfish, green parrotfish, butterflyfish, zebrafish, lionfish and small damselfish. You may also see some of the larger marine life, such as shark, rays, various turtle, including loggerhead, leatherback, hawksbill and green sea turtle and dolphin, including bottlenose, spinner and humpback.

If you are in Mombasa during turtle breeding and hatching season, visit the beaches of Watamu to watch these large, slow-moving animals lay their eggs in the sand and leaving back for the ocean. Hatching happens around 60 days later. With average temperatures in the 70 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (21 to 33 Celsius) and relatively high humidity levels, snorkelling or diving lets you cool in the midst of a very warm day. The southeast monsoon winds that blow from April to October and northeast winds from November to March can affect your diving conditions hence you may need to read more about the best time for snorkel diving in Kenya.

Kenya’s reefs are recognized as one of the world’s top three dive sites in the world by experienced divers, with the other two being the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Red Sea Reef. The waters along the Kenyan shore are always crystal clear and warm. Wreck and night diving are available too, truly affording a discerning marine exploration experience.

62474863_2417299755209468_5331459963858452480_oHowever, for conservative Kenya safari tour will always never disappoint you as you still got several safaris in Kenya destinations you can visit for your Africa safari adventure. Some of these include  Masai Mara National Reserve, Nairobi National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, Tsavo East National Park, Aberdares National Park and Amboseli National Park.

A tour Kenya experience to Masai Mara usually stands out as an ultimate Africa tour experience given the possibility of encountering the Wildebeests during their annual migration that sees them trek hundreds of kilometres all the way from the southern parts of Serengeti National park in Northern Tanzania into  Masai Mara and back to Serengeti. What captures your imaginations is what on earth drives over a million of these animals to embark on this dangerous journey filled with numerous life-threatening moments as many predators target to prey on these animals during this trek.

The Wildebeests’ crossing of the crocodile-infested Masai river is always a darling for many Africa safari tour lovers because not only do these animals have to battle the strong torrent of the Masai river waters but also the canning Nile crocodiles who parade themselves in these waters waiting for the best opportunity to launch on these non-expecting animals.

Government to Push Through With Construction of a Power Dam On Top Of Murchison Falls.

Government to Push Through With Construction of a Power Dam On Top Of Murchison Falls.

Government to push through with the construction of a power dam on top of Murchison Falls. The government of Uganda announces fresh plans of carrying out a feasibility study about the possibility of constructing a hydroelectric power dam on top of Murchison falls. This new announcement comes only after 2 months when a whistleblower had leaked photos of a letter sent to the Electricity Regulation Authority by a South African energy company Bonang Power & Energy Pty Limited  in which the company expressed its intention to carry out a feasibility study to construct on the lower end of Murchison falls on the Albert Nile.

murchison falls 2These leaked documents caused an uproar in the tourism community as well as the legislative assembly of our dear motherland as the legislators opposed such a venture that would ultimately lead to the destruction of the falls, the speaker of the Ugandan assembly right Hon Rebecca Kadaga asked the government to commit itself to the preservation of the falls which it did through a statement read on the floor of parliament by the minister of state for Environment Mary Katutu during her address to parliament  much to the delight of the tourism community which felt this was a no go zone area for such a development.

Fast forward, a few days ago, the government seems to be backtracking to its own promise of not considering to “okay” the idea of developing a dam near Murchison falls. On Monday the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during an address to the nation at State House Entebbe made a subtle hint about his position on this issue when he said the government would go-ahead to construct a dam at Uhuru falls and that those who opposed this idea didn’t know what they were talking about”.

The president stand seemed to be echoed again yesterday by Hon Godfrey Kiwanda during a stakeholders conference in the wildlife sector that took place at Skyzs hotel Naguru where he said that “we should investigate through the implications of the power dam. We have backtracked on an earlier decision where the cabinet had resolved that the feasibility study shouldn’t be conducted.”

Angry reactions from the stakeholders

This new stand took all the stakeholders present at the conference by surprise and definitely got them agitated. “Politician always disregard conservation matters and front development irrespective of the huge cost the country pays”. Simon Nampindo the director of the wildlife conservation society said. He further added that scientific reasons are not often considered by politicians and this is likely to be the case with Murchison falls”, added Simon Nampindo.

Murchison falls

muchson vistThe Murchison falls are part of the signature tourism attractions in Murchison Falls National Park which draw in hundreds of thousands of tourist to the park for an epic Uganda wildlife safari experience besides the rich biodiversity that exists within the park. A Uganda safari to Murchison falls gives you an opportunity to encounter nature at its absolute best with sightings of numerous mammals like the 5 big Africa game which include lions, cape buffaloes, leopards, African bush elephants and rhinos at the adjacent Ziwa rhino tracking sanctuary. For birders, Uganda safari tour Murchison is a walk in a birding haven as you are guaranteed with sightings of several of the 450 bird species that are found within the park hence making it a favourable spot for your Uganda bird watching safari experience.  A Uganda chimpanzee safari experience is also possible in Murchison falls park with the existence of these wild humans at the adjacent Budongo forest.

murchison boat.jpg 2However, what truly cements a safari Uganda to Murchison falls, is a possibility of enjoying a stunning boat cruise over the turbid but tranquil waters of the Albert Nile on your towards the great Murchison falls. During this cruise, you’re treated to a Uganda tours experience like nowhere else in Uganda because you get to encounter several water dwellers who roam the waters of Nile such as the numerous schools of hippos, as they take refuge in the cool waters of the river, the Nile crocodiles also align themselves on the banks of this river as they lie still in anticipation of landing a prey for lunch or just basking themselves to the incessant tropical heat of Murchison falls. For the birders, look out for the Nyamusika cliffs which are home to thousands of a variety of bird species such as the red-throated bee-eaters.  As you draw close to the falls, you’re welcomed by thunderous roars of the falls and a hike to the top of these falls, you’re ushered into the real of beauty Murchison falls as you get to see why its regarded as the world’s strongest waterfalls as you get to see millions of gallons of water squeeze through a 26 meter gorge before tumbling 43 meters below a cliff creating its signature rainbow as well as a cloud off plume that will always dazzle you on your short Uganda safari or long Uganda tour.

Tourism contribution to the country.

The tourism sector has over the years experienced a systematic growth contributing immensely to the Uganda’s economy sector. Statistics shows that as of 2018, the tourism sector earned Uganda close to 1.6billion USD, 200million dollars more than the previous year’s 1.4 billion dollars with 1.5 million tourists visiting Uganda in 2018. Murchison falls alone contributed more than 100000 visitors to this visitor numbers and is poised to continue with that similar trend given the increase in the number of tourists who opt to enjoy short Uganda tours due to limited time they have to enjoy a Uganda tour. Murchison falls park being a destination that has a rich wildlife diversity and relatively close to Kampala, its highly favored by these tourists on short Uganda safaris other than the other national parks which are a bit far away like Bwindi Impenetrable national park, Mgahinga gorilla national park, Semuliki National Park ,Mountain Rwenzori National Park and Kibale National Park and Kidepo Valley National Park which is the farthest of all. All these figures mean that the tourism sector Uganda’s biggest foreign exchange earner contributing 2.9% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product and 7.3% of the country’s GDP indirectly.

The Unique Bakonzo Cultural Tribe, Another Epic Attractions In Semuliki National Park.

The Unique Bakonzo Cultural Tribe, Another Epic Attractions In Semuliki National Park.

bakonzo 2Welcome to the second segment of our story about attraction in Semuliki National Park. In the last 3 episodes that we have ventured 441 birds species in Semuliki and birds that make Semuliki a truly remarkable Uganda birding safari destination and Sempaya hot springs. In today’s episode let’s look at Bakonzo people.

According to population census results of 2014 census, there are 850,646 Bakonzo in Uganda hence representing 0.025% of the country’s population. The Bakonzo people are closely related to the Nande people of eastern D.R. Congo in their ways of living and both the Nande and the Bakonzo are occupying the slopes of the Rwenzori mountain and certainly you will be able to encounter the Bakonzo on the when you visit Semuliki National Park

Just like many other African tribes, the Bakonzo undergo an initiation ceremony (Circumcision) especially the boys that ushers them into adulthood. Though no longer very much practiced as of today among Bakonzo, circumcision had to be done by the Bamba as it was a taboo for a Mukonzo to circumcise a fellow Mukonzo. No Mukonzo was expected to marry without being circumcised.

Just like many other African societies, when it came to courtship and marriage among the Bakonzo, the parents of the children had to do the scouting for a good suitor for their child.

Naming among the Bakonzo

The most unique cultural norm about the Bakonzo is their naming culture have a un culture when it comes to giving names to their new borns. The Bakonzo name their children following their birth positions which is unique from the rest of other great lakes tribes which usually give names basing on their clans or families. The Bakonzo have a total of 13 names for boys and girls that are born by one wife, Boys have 7 names given to them following their birth positions and these are; 1st born is named Baluku/ Mumbere, 2nd born is named Bwambale, 3rd born is Masereka, 4th born is Kuule, 5th is named Thembo, 6th is named Mbusa and 7th is named Ndungo. Religion among the Bakonzo

The Bakonzo believed in 2 supreme gods ie Kalisa and Nyabarika. Kalisa was depicted as a half man like god with one arm, leg, eye, half a nose and half mouth but the structure of the Nyabarika god is unknown. The Nyabarika god was very powerful and welded powers over life death, ability to bare children or not, famine and good harvest while the Kalisa god was majorly for hunting powers. This therefore meant that these two gods had to be appeased by the Bakonzo in order to have success in their way of life as hunters and farmers.  Many small sized huts for the gods were constructed and in these huts sacrifices of animals and food stuffs were offered to appease these gods, these huts are believed to still be in existence in the areas of  Nyamugasani. But with the coming of Christianity and Islam to the region, the Bakonzo abandoned their small gods for the new Christian and Islamic faiths.

What are Tusk Conservation Awards?

The Tusk Conservation Awards aim to shine a light to conservationists in Africa who have done an incredible job in ensuring that various wildlife species in Africa have an opportunity to thrive in their natural habitat which is frequently being infringed on by humans for various reasons hence leading to human-wildlife conflicts. This year marks the seventh year of these awards that were created in 2013 with Prince William the Duke of Cambridge and second to the throne of England and his wife Kate Middleton the Duchess of Cambridge as the Royal patrons to the awards. Fly Emirates Announces A Deal to Buy 30 New 787-9 Boeing Dreamliner Aircrafts in an 8.8 Billion Dollar Deal

Fly Emirates a Dubai based airline giant has announced that it has reached a deal in principle with Boeing a US aircraft maker to purchase 30 new 787-9 Dreamliner’s in its continued bid to see the company expand to new destinations around the globe.

FLY EMIRATES 2

This comes as good news to the aircraft maker Boeing which has been struggling with negative publicity following 2 air crashes involving its newest model of the 737 aircraft. These crashes took place late last year and earlier this year when two relatively new 737 max aircrafts belonging to 2 different airline companies crashed shortly after takeoff.

The first crash involved an Indonesian Lion Air aircraft which on 29th October 2018 crashed into the sea only 13 minutes after takeoff from the Jakarta killing all the 187 passengers and crew members on board. A few later on fateful March 10th 2019, another 737 max aircraft owned by Ethiopian airline destined for Jomo Kenya airport in Kenya from Addis Ababa crash-landed only 6 minutes into its flight killing all the 157 people on board.

These crashes were followed by lawsuits against Boeing by various stakeholders after investigations into these crashes revealed that 737 max planes have a sensor called the Manoeuvring Characteristics Augmentation System or MCAS was probably the biggest contributor theses crashes as it fed wrong information to the plane which led to a nosedive and pilots losing control of the plane hence ultimately causing the planes to crash.

These crashes also resulted in a total grounding of all the 737- max aircraft around the globe as airline companies couldn’t take risk of flying these planes due to safety concerns. Boeing also experienced a huge cancellation of orders for the same model of planes hence digging a hole in revenue pockets for the aeroplane maker giant.

Turning a new leaf

During the recently concluded  Dubai Airshow, Boeing managed to land a lucrative deal with Fly Emirates worth 8.8 billion dollars in which the aircraft making giant will supply Emirates with 30 brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s.

FLY EMIRATES 3

This deal was announced by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates Chairman and Chief Executive, who said “I am pleased to announce firm order for 30 Boeing Dreamliners. This is an important investment and addition to our future fleet and it reflects Emirates’ continued efforts to provide the best quality air transport services to our customers. The 787s will complement our fleet mix by expanding our operational flexibility in terms of capacity, range and deployment.

Sheikh Ahmed added: “Our Boeing fleet is key to our business model to serve international demand for travel to and through our Dubai hub, as we continue to contribute to the UAE’s strategy to become a global destination for business and tourism by providing high-quality air connectivity.”

As part of the agreement, Emirates will update a portion of its large order book by exercising substitution rights and converting 30 777 aeroplanes into 30 787-9s. With this conversion, Emirates remains the world’s biggest 777X customer with 126 aeroplanes on order and the largest 777 operators with 155 aeroplanes today.

“We are excited to finalize this important order from one of the world’s leading airlines. Our agreement solidifies Emirates’ plan to operate the 787 Dreamliner and the 777X, which make up the most efficient and most capable widebody combination in the industry,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President & CEO Stan Deal. “It is an honor to build on our successful partnership with Emirates and continue to sustain many jobs at Boeing and our supplier partners.”

A Snap Shot into the Dynamics Of The 787 Dreamliner

At 63 meters (206 feet), the 787-9 Dreamliner is a medium-size long haul aircraft that can fly 296 passengers, in a typical two-class configuration, up to 7,530 nautical miles (13,950 kilometers), while reducing fuel costs by more than 20 per cent compared to previous airplanes they replace. Designed with the passenger in mind, the 787 delivers an unparalleled experience with the largest windows of any jet, large overhead bins with room for everyone’s bag, comfortable cabin air that is cleaner and more humid, and soothing LED lighting.

FLY EMIRATES 4

The Dreamliner’s superior efficiency and range have allowed airlines to open 257 new non-stop routes around the world. More than 80 customers around the world have ordered more than 1,400 Dreamliners since the program’s introduction, making it the fastest-selling wide-body jet in history.
