A new dawn has emerged in the mountaineering world as a new hiking world record is set by a former British Marine

Are you a mountaineering enthusiast? It’s a big day for you, word reaching us is that Nirmal Purja has entered the Guinness Book of World Records after being the first man to hike all the 14 mountain ranges that are higher than 8000m in less than six months. Nirmal Purja reached the top of his 14th mountain, Shishapangma in China, on Tuesday morning. There are 14 mountains in the world higher than 8,000m, and the previous record for climbing them all was just under eight years.

Who is Nirmal Purja?

Purja, 36 is a Nepalese- British citizen who joined the British Army in 2003 and became a Royal Marine in 2009.  Just like many Nepalese soldiers that have served in the British Army for more than 200 years – specifically the Brigade of Gurkhas -. His climbing career began when he walked to Everest base camp in 2012 and, instead of returning as planned, decided to climb the entire mountain.

He was already the holder of numerous records – including the fastest “double-header” of two mountains higher than 8,000 metres – and was awarded the MBE, a civilian honour, by the Queen in 2018.

Purja’s own website says the previous record-holder was Polish climber Jerzy Kukucza, who finished the challenge in 1987 in 7 years, 11 months and 14 days.

But an article on the British Mountaineering Council’s website says the record-holder was, in fact, the South Korean Kim Chang-ho, with a time of seven years, 10 months and six days. Purja began his campaign in Nepal in April and climbed Mount Everest in May. There, his picture of the queue at the top of the summit gained worldwide attention. During his climbs, he rescued four other climbers – three of whom he called “suicide missions” – and has, in his own words, “bled from every angle”.

In September, his challenge was held up while he waited for permission to climb the final mountain, Shishapangma, in the Tibetan autonomous region of China.

His permit was granted on 15 October after the Nepali government approached the Chinese government on his behalf.

In order, the 14 mountains were:

  • Annapurna, Nepal, summit reached 23 April,
  • Dhaulagiri, Nepal, 12 May
  • Kanchenjunga, Nepal, 15 May
  • Everest, Nepal, 22 May
  • Lhotse, Nepal, 22 May
  • Makalu, Nepal, 24 May
  • Nanga Parbat, Pakistan, 3 July
  • Gasherbrum 1, Pakistan, 15 July
  • Gasherbrum 2, Pakistan, 18 July
  • K2, Pakistan, 24 July
  • Broad Peak, Pakistan, 26 July
  • Cho Oyu, China, 23 September
  • Manaslu, Nepal, 27 September
  • Shishapangma, China, 29 October

Uganda Safari tales of Africans & Marriage- “The Two Inseparable Twins”-Uganda Safari News

Many Uganda safari lovers have always been fascinated by the unique and diverse cultures that they encounter while on their Uganda wildlife safari or Uganda gorilla safari and this can be attributed to highly diverse society they encounter while on their safari Uganda since Uganda is home to over 60 unique and enticing tribes that are believed to have originated from numerous corners of the African continent.

Let’s try to sample a few cultural tribes and their origins

The Baganda; While on a Uganda safari / Uganda tour, you won’t fail to meet a person who claims to belong to the Baganda tribe. This isn’t entirely wrong because the Baganda tribe is the largest ethnic tribe in Uganda contributing over 16.9% of Uganda’s total population which stands at about 37 million as per the 2014 population census results. The Baganda people belong to the broader Bantu ethnic group which is composed of so many other tribes in Uganda such as the Banyankole, the Bakiga, Basoga, Bagisu, Batooro and many others which are believed by various history scholars to have originated from West Africa or the Congo basin. You are likely to meet many of the Bantu tribes just as those mentioned earlier by making a 1 day Kampala city tour or Kampala tour to meet the Baganda, 1 day Jinja source of the Nile tour to encounter the Basoga, 2 day Uganda chimpanzee safari to Kibale to meet the Batooro, 4 days Uganda wildlife safari to Queen Elizabeth & Lake Mburo or the 2 days Uganda safari to Lake Mburo to meet the Banyankole and 3 days Uganda gorilla trekking safari to Bwindi to meet the Bakiga

The Acholi

These belong to a bigger ethnic group called the Nilotics or River lake Nilotics. In Uganda the River lake Nilotics are composed of the Alur Acholi and the Japadhola and they can be collectively reffered to us the Luo tribes or speakers. These people are closely related to the Dinka and Nuer tribes of Southern Sudan and many schools of thoughts point out that the Luo of Uganda must have originated in the areas of Southern Sudan that are currently being occupied by the Dinka and Nuer. These people can be encountered during a 3 days Uganda wildlife safari to Murchison falls, 1 day Sipi falls tour

The other Karamajongs

The other group we can also look at is the Karamajongs, these belong to the Nilo Hamites group. The Nilo Hamites are also called the Plain Nilotes, this ethnic group comprises of the Karamajongs, Itesots, the Langi people, Kumam and the Kakwa. These people are predominantly cattle herders and basing on their oral history that is usually passed down to new generations through poems and songs, many scholars believe that these people could have migrated to Uganda from Mt. Otukei, also called Mt.Awil. They claim that they came from mountains which had abundant rain.  This Land could be Kaffa and this presupposed indeed that the Langi originated form Abyssinia. If you would like to encounter the some of the Nilo Hamites tribes while on your Uganda safari tour, then you need to undertake a 3 days Uganda safari to Kidepo Valley National Park which is in the epic center of the Karamajong people, you can also think of undertaking an 8 day Uganda safari to Kidepo valley national park and Murchison falls which passes via Soroti for an epic encounter with Itesots then the Karamajongs enroute to Kidepo Valley National Park. The Nilo Hamites of Uganda are closely related to the Dodoth, Lotuko, Topsa, and Turkana some of which you can encounter when you make a Kenya safari to some of the Kenya wildlife safari destinations such as Masai Mara National Reserve, Nairobi National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, Tsavo East National Park, Aberdares National Park and Amboseli National Park

Africans & marriage the two inseparable twins

Marriage is one of the most fascinating things that really make Africans stand out from the rest of the people around the world. In Africa, our great grands knew that our future strongly hinged on the next generation to be born. So in a bid to ensure that our future was certain, our parents did everything they could possibly do to have you married to the best spouse. For over centuries our lives right from birth are carefully modelled for marriage life because its such a point of mockery and scorn to you as a person and your family as well if you reach a marrying age but without having undertaken the proper required skills to make a marriage work. In a 7 part series I am going to take you on Uganda cultural safari journey looking at various ways of marriage in the different tribes of Uganda. Let’s kick start this series about marriage by looking at marriage among the Banyankole people.

A brief history of the Ankole people

The Banyankole are people who belong to the Ankole tribe which falls under the Bantu ethnic group. The Banyankole are further subdivided into the Bahima- these are cattle keepers and the Bairu –these are agriculturalists. Long ago, both the Bahima and the Bairu belonged to a kingdom of Ankole whose king was referred to as the Omugabe but in 1966 when the then president of Uganda Milton Obote abolished all cultural institutions in Uganda, the Ankole kingdom also suffered the same fate and until now it hasn’t been restored even though most of the other traditional institutions have been restored. As of the last census in Uganda of 2014, the Banyankole people are the 2nd largest group of people with an estimated population of 3.216 million people of which 2.6 million lived in the Ankole kingdom region. The Banyankole people are found in the western districts of Mbarara, Ntungamo, Ibanda, Kiruhura and Insingiro about 250km away from the capital city.

The road to marriage

Marriage was and is still up to now seen as an important institution among these people and when a child is born the parents will begin a mammoth tusk of having this child prepared for marriage right for a kinder age because it is a point of pride to the parents if their kids get married and have a successful marriage story. All children had to be appropriately brought up in preparation for this important stage of life.  The boys had to be well groomed by their fathers and uncles on issues like how to build and rule a family, herding cattle, defending the homestead and providing for the family. For the girls they had to be groomed by their mothers but mostly their aunties who had to pass on all the techniques that a woman was supposed to have in order to manage their marital homes. The aunt was to ensure that the girl maintained her virginity until marriage and was aware of how to satisfy her husband’s to be sexual desires.

Courtship

Marriage among the Banyankole isn’t a 1 or 2 part event but rather long process which involves quite a number of rituals and ceremonies before a man and a woman are really pronounced husband and wife. Although there was no courtship between a girl and a boy among the Banyankole, it was the father’s role to look for a bride for his son. When the father found a suitable partner for his son, he used a go through a person called Katerarume, Katerarume is a person who is well known by both the family of groom and bride to be. It was the Katerarume by the groom’s family to advance their wishes to the family of the potential bride to be and when the girl’s family accepted the proposal, the bridal price had to be agreed on by both families.

The art of bargaining for bride price

After the Katerarume successfully convincing the bride’s family of their interesting in having her hand in marriage, a day is set where few of the close relatives of the groom’s family visit the bride’s family and have a candid discussion about the bride price that was to be paid for the girl. Since these people are cattle keepers and are famous for their long horned cattle, bride price is usually determined in terms of heads of cattle. Usually, bride price ranges anywhere between 5-15 cows depending on the level of wealth of both the bride and groom’s families. After a really heated haggling, the families settle on an amicable number of cattle to be paid by the groom’s family.

Fetching the bride price.

Long ago, the bride’s family organized a group of elders and visited the groom’s family. This, therefore, required the groom’s family to organize a feast for the entourage of in laws that are visiting. After exchanging all pleasantries and having a meal. The in laws had to go the groom’s heard of cattle and pick out some of the best cattle from the groom’s kraal to be exchanged for bride as agreed during the processing of determining the bride price. The groom’s family had to transfer the cattle that were specifically picked out by the bride’s family and in case you decided to take to the cows which they didn’t pick that would cause the girl’s family to reject the cow’s brought by the groom’s family and sometimes call of the entire wedding since this was viewed as a sign of disrespect to them.

Kuhingira

“Kuhingira” or the “give away ceremony” is the wedding ceremony among the Banyankole, this ceremony is organized at the grounds of the bride’s home and the entire community is invited to attend the girl’s send off and a great feast is organized to send off the bride. During the Kuhingira ceremony, the girl is veiled and she never shows are face to the public. The newly wedded couple (culturally wedded) is given a lot of gifts by various relatives of the bride’s as a way of ensuring that their daughter gets comfortable in her new marital home. In modern times, after the Kuhingira, the day after is a church wedding called “okugeitwa” and it is organized by the groom’s family. The wedding sees the bride who is still having her veiled and groom go to church to be officially wedded in the eyes of God as well. From the church, another feast is organized by the groom’s family at his home and this feast is expected to be bigger and better than the Kuhingira feast that was organized by the bride’s family because the groom has to show off his potential as an able provider to the bride.  Long ago, on the night after the wedding the bride met his husband for the first time to consummate their love and usually the aunt to the bride would be in an adjacent room listening to prove that the both have what it takes to satisfy each other’s sexual desires or would check the beddings which they slept on to check for blood stains as a symbol to prove that her niece was still a virgin before marriage. However, this is no longer done in modern times as people have evolved away from that tradition. The next day, the bride returned to her parents house where she was now an unveiled for the whole world to see her face. After a few days the bride was escorted to her new marital home by a group of relatives called “enshangarizi”. The bride stayed in doors for a few days and at the end of these days a ritual by the agricultural Banyankole called “okukoza omuliro” which means “help her make a fire in the kitchen” was conducted then she officially became part of the family however the pastoral Banyankole carried out another ritual called “okutasya ekihara” which officially welcomed the bride to the her new family. Both these rituals symbolize that the bride has become part of the family and can now start full filling all her duties as a wife henceforth.

The end of the marriage ceremony only marks the beginning of a new chapter of life of adulthood among the newly wedded couple and now the future of the clan or family is bestowed onto them as they are required to produce children and prepare their kids for marriage just as their parents did so as to ensure the continuity of the family and the tribe at large hence meaning marriage cycle continues. Have you had a wonderful time exploring marriage among the Bayankole people? Then wait for our next series about marriage among the largest ethnic community in Uganda, the Baganda

Uganda Museum is set for a facelift ahead of the Leonardo Opera Omnia Exhibition due in Kampala next month.

All people who have visited Uganda-my dear motherland! Have their own fairytale stories to tell about this country which has an astounding impact on the hearts of many Africa safari makers who have dared to venture to this incredibly beautiful country that’s so awesome to see. One of the many things that have made Uganda a darling Africa safari destination to many Africa safaris tours makers is its unique culture, food and wildlife biodiversity that is unmatched.

Let’s talk about Uganda’s cultural diversity

Although Uganda is a relatively small country that can only be compared to great Britain or Oregon state in size, Uganda has a cultural diversity that is unmatched by any of these because Uganda has over 60 unique tribes of people with each tribe having their own language and culture. Therefore means that as you walk on the streets of Kampala city- Uganda’s capital during a 1 day Kampala city tour, 1 day Kampala tour out of the many of the 5 million people that work in Kampala you’re likely to meet, every 2 of these people are coming from a different tribe. During a Kampala city tour which can be done using any of our wide fleet of safari cars like the 4×4 safari land cruisers for hire in Kampala, 4×4 safari vans for hire in Uganda or 4×4 coasters for hire In Uganda not only do you get to see people of different cultures but you also get to visit several places that celebrate the cultures of different tribes in Uganda. One of these places is the Uganda museum.

What is the Uganda museum all about?

Located 3 km along Kampala- Ntinda- Bukoto road the Uganda Museum was 1908 by the colonial government and this makes it the oldest museum in the East African region. This museum is dedicated at showcasing Uganda’s cultural diversity and history as it displays both cultural and historical items ranging from musical instruments used by different tribes in Uganda, archaeological artefacts, natural historical samples, royal regalia of different monarchies in Uganda and artifacts of the colonial era like vintage cars that were used by the first colonial governors.

Uganda museum in its efforts to preserve Uganda’s culture and history strikes a similar code to other international museums around the round in their efforts to preserve the heritage of their own people. It’s on this basis that Italy European centre of culture through the Italian Embassy in Kampala has decided to give Uganda Museum a facelift. This facelift comes ahead of the Leonardo Opera Omnia Exhibition due in Kampala next month.

Speaking to the media earlier today, H.E Massimiliano Mazzanti, the designated Italian Ambassador to Uganda said that, “To mark the occasion [Leonardo Opera Omnia exhibition], the Embassy of Italy in Kampala, with support of the private sector (generous companies like Youma Builders and Equatorial Power), will renovate the main hall of Uganda Museum to give it a fresh look.”

Adding that, “the power system at the Museum will be stabilized and solar panels be installed to ensure outdoor lighting.” He revealed that only two cities in sub-Saharan Africa had been selected to host the exhibition – Addis Ababa and Kampala whose expo will be held at Uganda Museum from November 19, 2019, to January 5th, 2020.

Amb. Massimiliano noted that the inauguration of the exhibition will open the Italian Cultural week (18-24 November 2019). The week that is dedicated to Italian Culture and cuisine will see many exciting events with the participation of a rock band and some chefs, who will come directly from Italy for the occasion.

“The Italian music band “Ladri di Carrozzelle” composed of people with disabilities, will bring to Uganda their mission of social inclusion and promotion of “diversity” through music,” Mazzimiliano added.

According Massimiliano, the Italian Tourism Board will ensure participation of five chefs from Piedmont region (north of Italy, famous mainly truffles fungus and wines) and one of their managerial representatives.

They will be engaged in a training session for the students of Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute in Jinja and will also participate in Rolex vs Pizza competition on November 21st, he added.

He went on to thank key partners that have made Leonardo Opera Omnia possible in Uganda. These include City Tyres, Equatorial Power, the Italian Trade Agency, Qatar Airways, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Stanbic Bank Uganda and Youma Builders. Others are Uganda Ministries’ of Science and Technology and that of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities alongside its sister Agency Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).

Speaking on behalf of Uganda’s Minister of Tourism, Mr. Lyazi Vivian, a Commissioner at the Ministry of tourism, said that, “Uganda was privileged to have been selected as the African country to host this exhibition that is moving around the world.” “This opportunity is significant and manifests the important relationship that Uganda shares with the people of Italy,” he added.

He particularly noted that the relationship [between Uganda and Italy] was old and precious sighting examples of when in 1906, the Duke of Abruzzi, Amedo Luigi climbed the Rwenzori and documented its geographical features for the first time. The Margherita peak is named after the Queen of Italy and indeed over the years, “Italy has supported various development programmes in Uganda,” he said.

Mr. Lyazi said that this exhibition was bound to raise the profile of Uganda Museum and indeed Uganda as a heritage destination, adding that it was an opportunity for regional visitors and international tourists to enrich their experience of rare and internationally acclaimed works of art in Uganda.

On her part, UTB Marketing Manager, Ms. Claire Mugabi reiterated the Ministers words, saying that, “The choice for Uganda to be the first to unveil this collection shows our tourism capacity and capability, highlighted with the trust put in us by the Italian ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation as well as the embassy of Italy in Uganda.”

“This partnership and collaboration shows our increasingly successful partnership with Italy, who can contribute greatly to our cultural exposure with their equally diverse and rich history,” she added.

Ms. Mugabi called on the tour operators, hotels, airlines, churches, mosques, academia, schools, the media and all interested organizations to mobilize their clients, students, followers and friends to come and benefit from this opportunity.

Leonardo Opera Omnia

Leonardo Opera Omnia is an innovative and ambitious project, born from a collaboration between the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and RAI (the Italian Public Television), to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci’s death. It aims at sharing the Italian cultural heritage by displaying seventeen high definition and true-to-scale reproductions of Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpieces. The original paintings are scattered in various locations and museums all over the world.

A curator from Italy will travel to Uganda to take care of the entire set-up of the exhibition and the logistic costs of the initiative will be sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Leonardo Opera Omnia unveils the great master’s life and genius through his pictorial work. The exhibition is at the same time an art exposure and an educational experience, intended to showcase the culture of the Renaissance era through visual information, painted by Leonardo in the 16th century.

According to the organisers, the exhibition brings together the cultural and artistic aspects of Leonardo’s works with the innovation and technology applied for the reproductions on display; this is the final and uppermost tribute to Da Vinci’s passion for inventions and scientific experimentation.

Though many people around the world recognise the work of Leonardo, they may not have had the chance to see his artworks in Europe; with the project Opera Omnia, the opportunity to see and enjoy the works of Leonardo Da Vinci, like “Mona Lisa” or “The Last Supper”, is now being given to the majority of Ugandans and tourists at large.

 Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo, (1452 – 1519) was born in a small village in Tuscany (Italy). Son of a Florentine notary, Leonardo’s eclectic creative talent marvelled his own era and the ones who followed, with his fame reaching every corner of the globe.

He created the two most famous paintings in history: the Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. Driven by passion for innovative studies, he anticipated many of the great scientific discoveries ahead of time (from calculators to helicopters, hydrodynamics to solar power), depicting him as history’s most creative genius.

Experience Uganda’s wild side with a 4 days Uganda wildlife safari

Have you ever had a chance to meet Uganda’s wild side? If you haven’t well I am going to give you an overview of what a Uganda wildlife safari has to offer to you following a 4 days Uganda safari to Murchison Falls National Park. This story is primarily based on the experience of a lovely group of doctors who decided to explore Uganda after their work in Mulago hospital- Uganda’s major referral hospital.  This safari in Uganda kicked off with an early morning pick up which was done by one of several professional driver guides using one of our wide fleet of safari cars which include 4×4 safari vans for hire in Uganda, 4×4 safari land cruisers for hire in Uganda/ 4×4 safari jeeps for hire in Uganda and 4×4 safari coasters for hire in Uganda. For this particular Uganda safaris experience, it was a really comfortable 4×4 safari van for hire in Uganda that did the trick.

The journey to Murchison falls

This Uganda safari tour to Murchison falls commenced with an early morning pick up from Kampala then we embarked on a 7-8 hours journey to the park. Although this Uganda tours adventure is quite long, its quite fascinating while it lasts, as you get to enjoy splendid views of Uganda’s lush green landscape along the way as well as the incredibly thrilling road stops that this journey comes with. Speaking of road stops, the first one came about in a local town called Kasana at a roadside fresh fruit market where you get to replenish your energy levels as you savour an assortment of fresh, sweet and juicy Ugandan fruits that are purely organic. On arrival to this market, your 4×4 safari van for hire in Kampala gets swarmed by frantic vendors who are carrying a wide array of merchandise and by-merchandise in this case I mean a variety of tropical fruits that range from pineapples, sugarcane, bananas and I promise these are the sweetest bananas you will ever taste in anywhere on the planet and very much all the other fruits as well.  What however caught my eye is a local tropical fruit called “FEENE” which I learnt from our guide that its called Jack fruit in English, this fruit has a bit hard and roughcast outer layer that is filled with onion-like fruits that have a seed inside each of them. Tasting this fruit truly cements the fact that Uganda is a country of wide diversity in everything because its absolutely sweet as it is loaded with natural sugars.

Rhinos encounters are an unexpected bonus

We proceeded with our safari Uganda journey to Ziwa rhino sanctuary. Just as its name suggests, the Ziwa rhino sanctuary gives you an opportunity to meet one of the 5 big Africa game- the rhinos as this sanctuary is home to 27 of these land giants. These African giants had been almost completely wiped out from Uganda but these have been restored with the help of this sanctuary and now Uganda’s future as an African wildlife safari destination where you can meet the big five is seemingly more clear each day that pass as the sanctuary continues to record an increase in the numbers of these land giants. As you search for the rhinos here on your Uganda safari tour adventure, don’t miss out on the various bird species that are found here.  After a fascinating encounter with the rhinos, we transferred to Kabalega Dinners which about a Mile or 1.6km South of the sanctuary where we enjoyed a sumptuous hot exotic meal which is really glimmer of hope to anyone who homesick as this restaurant prepares tasty American style food that will definitely remind of home. From the restaurant, it was a one-way nonstop 3-hour drive to the Tangi gate which is on the northern side of the park.

Murchison Falls National Park- a place of magical Africa wildlife safari encounters

boat cruise in murchison fallsOnce we got to Murchison we were ushered into the tropical savanna wilderness and you can’t help but have your jaw drop given the biodiversity that exists here. The initial Uganda wildlife safari game drive we had on our way to the lodge was a fantastic one as we spotted many giraffe, elephants, baboons, and other wildlife along the road. We stayed at Twiga Tales which was a bit rustic but was comfortable, clean, and the food was wonderfully prepared by a chef every evening. Across the next two days, we explored the park with Robert as our guide in a 4×4 safari van and what made this car  the best one for our safari was the pop up roof which allowed us to stand and have magnificent views of the Murchison falls wilderness and also take epic photographs of the several animals that we encountered in the various tour Uganda game drives we undertook across a space of 2 days. In these 2 days, we saw lions on the hunt, a leopard feasting in a tree, hippos, crocs, many exotic birds. Although a Uganda tour to Murchison falls is quite a spectacle of its own, Uganda still has more wildlife destinations that give you a unique insight into what Uganda has to offer as a destination and these include Lake Mburo National Park Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park Murchison Falls National Park Uganda.

The greater east Africa destination

Since the savanna plains of Uganda are really just a part of the larger east African savanna grasslands that span into the east African countries of Tanzania and Kenya, you can be amazed to have this particular safari in Uganda to Murchison falls National Park in Kenya when you make a Kenya safari to several of Kenya wildlife safari destinations such as Masai Mara National Reserve, Nairobi National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, Tsavo East National Park, Aberdares National Park and Amboseli National Park an Africa wildlife safari to any of these parks gives you an opportunity to encounter several of the Africa’s big five ie lions, leopards, elephants, cape buffaloes and of course the rhinos, other animals that roam these plains include the reticulated giraffes, cheetahs, hippos, sitatungas, African wild dogs, Grevy’s zebras and many more. Similarly, Tanzania can also offer you the same wildlife experience when you make a Tanzania safari tour to several Tanzania wildlife safaris destinations such as Lake Manyara National Park, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Park and Serengeti National Park.

What makes this tours in Uganda to Murchison quite unique from the rest of other Africa safari tours in Tanzania and Kenya is the stunning boat cruise to the bottom of the falls which is quite stunning as its comes with sightings of several bird species such as the red-throated bee-eaters and the as you draw close to the falls, you will be captivated by the thunder roar of these Murchison waterfalls.

With our 4 days safari in Uganda, we really couldn’t explore most of Uganda’s biodiversity given the limited time we had but one thing you should always look out for when you make a safari Uganda is the gorillas. Uganda is a country that is gifted to be home to these incredibly beautiful mountain giants and they are found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. . These gentle giants in Uganda almost constitute half of the world’s gorilla population which is currently standing at around 1000 individuals. During this gorilla safari Uganda, you are awarded with an hour to gaze and photograph these magical beings in their natural habitat as they go about their daily rounds. This gorilla trek safari Uganda experience still offers you a chance to site several of the 350 bird species in this tropical paradise. Back to Murchison falls

As we earlier stated, Uganda is a country that is really blessed and we still wanted to see more of its beautiful wild hence on the way out of the park, we tried to do a last-minute add of Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking safari but the national park venue was all booked up that day. We decided to go with a second rate operation run by Twiga Tales. It was a fun hike through the jungle but we only saw one Chimpanzee way up in a tree, so that was a bit of a bummer, but we did get a nice refund for that excursion. If we do the trip again, we will make sure to prebook the main Chimp Trekking venue which is done in Budongo Forest in the southern sector of Murchison falls or also in Kibale forest National park that is endowed with over 5000 chimpanzees and 12 other primate species on top of 350 bird species- Uganda is really blessed for sure. This, therefore, means if you aren’t interested in moving a lot, you can visit this Kibale National Park and enjoy a Uganda birding safari experience, Uganda chimpanzee watching safari all in one place. at the end of our nature walk, we started our Uganda safaris tours journey back to Kampala which lasted about 4 hours to get there then we proceeded to the airport for our flight long back home. All the transfers were done by our guide using the company’s 4×4 safari van for hire in Uganda.

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy- A Kenya Wildlife Safari Destination That Gave Birth to the Royal Fairy-tale Romance- Kenya Safari News

Do you fancy a Kenya wildlife safari? Get ready to enjoy an epic Kenya safari tour to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. This

Safari Attractions in Maasai Mara

Hyenas in Maasai Mara National Reserve

Kenya safari to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy takes us to Kenya which is located in the eastern region of the African continent along geographical co-ordinates of 0.02254oN 37.4409oE. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is located in central Kenya, Meru county, south of Isiolo town, but its north of Mount Kenya and its bordered by Leparau community conservancy in the north, II Ngwesi Community Trust in the northwest, Borana Wildlife Conservancy in the west, Ngare Ndare forest in the south and the A2 road in the east.

On exploring this tropical African savanna paradise on this Africa safari tour, you are in a position to get to know about the successful conservation story of Lewa conservancy which can be traced back to the Craig and Douglas family which came to the plains of Lewa in 1922 and carried out cattle ranching on these lands. The Craig family valued the wildlife biodiversity that existed here and worked in harmony alongside these animals that also called these plains their home as well.

The creation of Lewa as we know it

The Lewa area was an area with numerous black rhinos but due to poaching the numbers for these animals had greatly reduced to a bare minimum. The Craig family and Mrs Anna Merz in 1983 decided to establish a fence along the boundaries of the western end of Lewa downs hence creating a wildlife sanctuary for the animals that existed here. The new sanctuary was further stocked with more rhinos from various parts of Kenya and after a few years here these rhinos formed relations and started breeding hence growing their population in the reserve. 10 years later, the rhino population grew and it necessitated the proprietors to expand the sanctuary hence they extended the boundaries to cover the southern Ngare Ndare forest. Although the boundaries were enclosed with a fence, migratory routes were left in some parts to allow free migration of animals between the Lewa and the neighbouring conservation areas. As of today, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy holds about 13% of all the rhinos in Kenya totalling to about 138 of both black and white rhinos. The Craig family handed over the management of the reserve to a nonprofit organization that runs its activities up to today.

Lewa the place that gave birth to the royal romance fairy-tale story

Are you a staunch fun of the British royal family? Mama Ngina Brings a New Twist to A Magical Kenya Safari- Kenya Safari News

What comes to your mind when you think of making a Kenya safari? Do you picture yourself in the endless savanna plains with countless wild animals around? If you have such a vivid picture in mind for your Kenya safari tour, you aren’t entirely wrong because any Kenya safari is based on giving you magical wildlife encounters. However, mama nginathis is also about to change as Kenya is steadily branding itself as not only a destination which gives epic Kenya safari wildlife encounters but also as a destination of choice for recreational tourism. Word reaching our desk is that President Uhuru Kenyatta has officially opened Mama Ngina Waterfront Park that was redeveloped at the cost of Sh460 million. The iconic seaside public park reopened its doors to the public earlier when it hosted this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations that were led by President Kenyatta. Other senior government officials who accompanied the president on the official opening ceremony included Deputy President William Ruto, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and other senior Government dignitaries including Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho accompanied the President during the official opening ceremony.

What is Magina Ngina?

Sitting on 26 acres overlooking the Kilindini Channel in Mombasa, Mama Ngina is a waterfront park that has now transformed Mombasa into not only a holiday and honeymoon destination but also into a recreational tourism hot spot. This park has undergone a complete refurbishment which included landscaping and paving the waterfront with concrete blocks, construction of a state-of-the-art amphitheatre, the Kilindini Cultural Centre, ablution blocks and two main gates leading to the park among other developments.

Tourists visiting the park will have a choice to treat themselves to cultural exhibitions, shopping, dining at open-air fresco restaurants and cafes or to relax at the breathtaking expansive site.

The project is designed to support a 24-hour economy and its layout includes a new jetty for water taxis. The Ministry of Tourism is already optimistic that the park will attract more local and foreign tourists to Mombasa, Kenya’s oldest town and the country’s second city.

President Kenyatta commissioned the construction of the park in January this year during which he expressed his expectation that the facility will help restore the glory of Mombasa as a top tourist destination in the region. The redevelopment that was undertaken by a local company, Suhufi Agencies, was completed in time to host the Mashujaa Day fete, which was held in Mombasa County as part of a rotational hosting of certain national celebrations by counties.

The mama Ngina waterfront park is here to give an extra choice of activity after your Kenya wildlife safaris. Many Africa wildlife safari enthusiasts who make safari in Kenya visit several of Kenya wildlife safari destinations such as Masai Mara National Reserve, Nairobi National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, Tsavo East National Park, Aberdares National Park and Amboseli National Park. A Kenya safari tour to any of these destinations is a great way to have yourself get lost into the tropical wilderness as you search for several of the Africa safari wild mammals such as all the 5 big africa game which include lions, African bush elephants, leopards, the stubborn cape buffaloes, and rhinos. Other wildlife animals that may encounter on a Kenya safaris experience include the tallest land mammals the giraffes, the Thomson’s and the grants gazalles plain zebras and many more. All safaris in Kenya are epic but a safari Kenya to Masai Mara national reserve stands out as its gives a chance to encounter the spectacle of the great wildebeest migration in which millions of animals particularly wildebeests and zebras go on a treacherous journey of over a thousand kilometers crossing from Masai Mara into Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. What makes this migration so thrilling for you to see is the way these animals plunge themselves one after the other into crocodile infested Mara river in which these hungry crocodiles gather from and wide to prey on these seemingly mad or frightened animals that have seem as if something has frightened them for them to decide to jump one after another into their own oblivion with no second thought whatsoever.

Since the Kenya grasslands are part of the great east African savanna grassland plains that extend into the east African countries of Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania as well, its not so shocking to have a similar wildlife encounter in these countries just like the one in Kenya. A Tanzania wildlife safari that completely mimics a Kenya safari experience takes you on a Tanzania safari journey to numerous Tanzania wildlife safaris destinations such as Lake Manyara National Park, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Park and Serengeti National Park.

64629162_2422846067988170_8414748201755607040_nAll these parks are home to a wide range of spectacular amazing wildlife mammals such as the African big five and many others. However just like a visit to Masai Mara stands out on a Kenya safari, in Tanzania safari tour to Serengeti National Park should on top of your bucket list of destination to visit on your Africa wildlife safari adventure because Serengeti National park is the place where the great wildebeest migration begins and ends from hence a Tanzania tour to this park on top of a Kenya wildlife safari to Masai Mara gives you a chance to fully understand the why and how this migration occur

In Uganda, a Uganda wildlife safari to any of Uganda wildlife safaris destinations such as Queen Elizabeth national park Uganda, Murchison Falls National Park Uganda, Kidepo Valley National Park Uganda and Lake Mburo National Park Uganda. Dark Tourism is the Next Uganda safari product item to look out for

Ug martyrs 2Uganda is a country of spectacular wildlife diversity, stunning culture and rich history. Uganda safaris usually leave many travel enthusiasts blown away by how such as a small country like Uganda that can only be matched to UK or Oregon State in terms of size can be richly gifted in all aspects of wildlife and culture. During a Uganda wildlife safari trip to any of the spectacular Uganda tour destinations, you will be captivated by Uganda’s scenery, wildlife, the people and diverse local cuisines in Uganda.

mengo palceGiven the wild diversity of Uganda, many tour operators in Uganda are concentrating on creating packages that mainly focus on selling Uganda as a wildlife and cultural destination. It is on this ground that the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has earmarked dark tourism – travel to places historically associated with death and tragedy – as a product it believes will not only help diversify Uganda’s tourism product offerings but also help the younger generation understand the journey of their country.

Lily Ajarova, CEO of Uganda Tourism Board, says the country’s tourism offering is not just about the beauty. The dark past offers a new form of tourism that is becoming increasingly popular around the world. “Dark tourism offers complex and personal stories of those affected. These also act as deterrents so that such events never occur again. Uganda’s history, especially during the 1970s, gives us a unique understanding of the character that many people – both citizens and foreigners – would want to learn from,” she explains.

namugongoAlthough many tour operators in Uganda haven’t been keenly offering Uganda safari tour packages inspired by Uganda’s dark past, Prime safaris & tours ltd is already ahead of the pack as it offers you comprehensive 1 day Kampala city tour packages to areas with emphasis being highlighted on sights that have were set up to highlight some of Uganda’s darkest days in her history. this Kampala city tour is done in the comfort of any of our wide fleet of safari cars which include 4×4 safari vans for hire in Uganda, 4×4 coaster for hire in Uganda, 4×4 safari land cruisers for hire in Uganda or 4×4 safari jeeps for hire in Uganda. During this Kampala city tour, you have an opportunity to visit the Amin torture chambers that are found within the courtyard of Buganda’s Mengo palace and these were used by the then president of this young republic Gen Amin Dada who was an absolute despot and ruled the land with an iron fist to torture those that he thought were interested in overthrowing his government from power. Many people who breathed their last within the confinements of the walls of these torture chambers left handwritten paintings on the walls of these dungeons that they made using their own blood and excrements as the last form of communication to their loved ones about their whereabouts.

ug martyrsAnother attraction site you will visit on this Kampala day tour / Kampala day tour is the Namugongo Martyrs. This shrine is the true embodiment of how resilient Ugandans can be because, during the early days of Christianity in Uganda, the then Kabaka(King) of Buganda- Kabaka Mwanga II viewed the Christianity which was spreading like a wildfire a very potential threat to his ability to have his subjects under control. He, therefore, ordered for new converts to Christianity to denounce their newly found religious faith and go back to their roots. These newly converted Christians denounced the Kabaka’s orders and that definitely sealed their fate of death because it was an abomination to refute the king’s orders hence they had to be persecuted and by the beginning of 1886 some of these new Christians started facing their death, however, the majority of these Christians were brought to the execution grounds named Namugongo were they were killed by burning.

“This product has both national and international demand.” Ms Lily says, in some countries, Uganda is only associated with Idi Amin. “It is an opportunity to show that the country has since moved on.” Uganda will join countries such as Germany, Cambodia, Japan and Rwanda as destinations for dark tourism.

A 1 day Kampala tour that takes you to these places can similarly be compared to a Rwanda city tour or Rwanda safari that takes to Rwanda genocide memorial which harbours the story of Rwanda’s darkest days in history.  During this Rwanda safari tour visit to the Rwanda genocide memorial, you will be in position to encounter the tales of many Rwandese that lived and managed to survive the horrors of the Rwanda genocide which saw over one million Tutsis were persecuted by the Hutus. If you desire to visit the Rwanda genocide Memorial, you can easily add a Kigali city tour on top of your either short Rwanda gorilla safari or long Rwanda gorilla safari which is usually carried out by many tourists on a safari in Rwanda
